The Bhimashankar Temple is an ancient Jyotirlinga shrine that is located in the Ghat sections of the magnificent Sahyadri Mountains near Pune in Maharashtra. It is among the twelve jyotirlingas of lord shiva which is very special for devotees of lord shiva.
History of Bhimashankar Temple
The contemporary structure of this complex is recent; however, it is dated back to the 13th century in perspective and local literature. Bhimashankar is believed to have been raised over a Swayambhu Lingam. At Bhimashankar temple, the Lingam is precisely at the focal point of the floor of the Garbhagriha (the Sanctum Sanctorum).
Later, the great Maratha ruler, Shivaji also made enrichments to this temple. Further, Chimaji Appa gathered five huge ringers after he won a conflict against the Portuguese from the Vasai Post.
