History of Hawa Mahal in Jaipur

Hawa Mahal in Jaipur was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. He belongs to the Kachhawa clan of the Rajput dynasty. The Maharaja Jaipur was influenced by a Beautiful palace in Khetri. So, he decided to build Hawa Mahal. This palace is also popular as the wind palace.

The architect of this palace was Lal Chand Ustad. With the carvings on red sandstone, he made it a mesmerizing place. It is a five-storey palace that has 953 windows. The windows of this mahal are known as Jharokhas in Hindi. Every floor of Hawa mahal has given a name. The first floor of this palace is Sharad Mandir and the second floor is Ratan Mandir which has carvings on the stone. While other top floors are Vichitra Mandir, Prakash Mandir, and Hawa Mandir.
